International EUSBSR seminar highlighted catchment-based cooperation for cleaner water
On 6–7 May, an international EUSBSR seminar focusing on catchment-based cooperation for cleaner water in the Baltic Sea Region took place in Estonia. The seminar was jointly organised by the LIFE SIP WetEST, LIFE IP CleanEST and Interreg BaltCOP projects.
During the two-day event, experts from Estonia, Finland, Sweden, Latvia, England and other countries discussed how to strengthen catchment-based water management, improve local cooperation and develop more sustainable cooperation networks.
The seminar programme included sessions and parallel discussions covering topics such as:
- catchment coordinator systems and Finnish experiences,
- challenges related to hazardous substances and chemical pollution,
- nature-based solutions for improving water quality,
- aligning agriculture, business and environmental goals,
- and cooperation opportunities between Baltic Sea region initiatives and projects.
Discussions also focused on how to make catchment-based cooperation more permanent and how to ensure that messages emerging from regional cooperation platforms increasingly reach policy-making arenas.
A sincere thank you to all speakers, partners and participants for the inspiring discussions and cooperation!
