Monitoring

Monitoring

Monitoring is conducted to assess the improvement of the aquatic environment and water-dependent ecosystems in the areas of the project. For this purpose, the biota of selected bodies of watercourses is monitored, the impact of pressure factors on ground, surface, and coastal water is studied, and pollutant loads and pollution sources are identified. Scenarios are modelled for the conditions of the coastal waters of Eru-Käsmu and Narva-Kunda Bay.

The water bodies located in the areas of quarries are also monitored, and possibilities are sought for reclamation of those water bodies. The efficiency of removing the residual pollution of surface and groundwater which has been generated in the past is assessed. The effects of migration barriers and damaged or destroyed habitats on aquatic life are also identified.

The monitoring is conducted by the Geological Survey of Estonia, the Estonian Environmental Research Centre, Tallinn University of Technology, and the Environment Agency.
